Giant Xtc 29er 2.Why a 29" Mountain Bike?For anyone unsure of the relative merits of the 29er the main advantage is the larger contactsurface due to the larger wheel diameter. This gives better traction and the wheel can roll over larger obstacles without problems with the reduced angle at contact. The larger wheels can be a considerable advantage downhill although the larger heavier wheel can be a disadvantage on the return climb. It will come into its own when encountering slippery tree roots and deep washaways on the forest trails.As with the Xtc the frame is light and very responsive. This is complemented with the Fox 32F29 RL-100 fork. This fork has a 15mm Thru axle which helps to give a good positive feel to the handling. The Thru axle reduces any flex in the fork legs and this is aided by the tapered steerer on the forks (larger bearings at the base). The equipment is Shimano a combination of Deore Xt Slx and Deore together with Shimano hydraulic disc brakes. All of this works well and Giant have obviously reseached this to come up with a combination that performs well without killing the bank account. All the add ons are high quality it has double wall rims now made by Giant themselves. The handlebars stem and seat pillar are again made by Giant and are light and strong - all that is required. Tyres are Maxxis Aspen and it has a Fizik Tundra saddle.Check the reviews these bikes are rapidly becoming the way to go.
